Helping Hands Shaping Tomorrow             

McDowell County Schools Head Start, Early Head Start  and Preschool Programs is a comprehensive child care program that is designed to meet the educational, health, nutritional , physical, and social needs of children.  The program serves children ages 0-5.  Children of families that meet federal income guidelines are served at no charge.  Other children may be served in our paid program and may be eligible for assistance in paying for childcare.  Children who meet certain state standards may be eligible for free care in the More at Four program.

The program operates 6 centers.  The majority are five star centers....the highest state accreditation possible. The centers are as follows:

NC Preschool CDA and NC Infant-Toddler CDA
After long negotiation and work by our state Office of Head Start Director, North Carolina has approved two Child Development Associate Credentials (CDA) that will be recognized nationwide.  There is one for Preschool and one for Infant-Toddler.  The classes required for the credentials are listed below.

Preschool CDA:
